What I’m Reading Wednesday – Content Strategy for the Web

What I’m Reading

Hello and Happy New Year (plus 2 days)!  Welcome to High Impact Mom’s newest column, What I’m Reading Wednesday.  Planned to be a monthly column posted on the 1st Wednesday of each month, I’ll be sharing what I and the girls are reading this month.  Don’t worry though, if you forget what I’m reading mid-month and can’t find our post you can always keep up with what I’m reading by checking out my I am Reading widget in the far right sidebar.

See?

This month I’m reading Content Strategy for the Web, 1st Edition by super-smart web content strategist, Kristina Halvorson.  As 2012 opens up, I am more focused than ever with  my 3 professional words in mind I am starting new projects and revamping some of my ‘old’ projects.

One of the places of my business I will be looking to expand in 2012 is in developing content strategies for established and new blogs.

Although I have already read it once, last year, I am drawn to Content Strategy for the Web again for a refresher course in how to approach and work through the steps of a complete website audit, analysis, and content strategy production & implementation.  Kristina Halvorson writes clearly and with authority throughout the book and walks the reader through the process and gives you actionable tips to help you design a content strategy that will work for your company/blog.

Written more for the professional working within an organization, Halvorson’s tips and advice can and should be easily used on a personal/small business blog.  I am looking forward to implementing the strategies I am fine-tuning through this book in future client websites and in my blog immediately.

What the Girls are Reading

The girls and I are busy reading Robert C. O’Brien’s Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh, which is just one of the many books KG got for Christmas this year.  An exciting tale of a widowed mother and her frantic journey to keep her family safe with the help of the amazing Rats of NIMH, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh has captured both girls attention (ages 8 & 4) and keeps them begging for an extended story-time.

I love it when a book captures the girls’ attention and keeps them interested even when they’re not reading.  As part of our reading, we like to guess what will happen further in the story and then see if we were right the next (or subsequent) night.

So tell me, what are you reading this first month of the new year?

You can read my Content Strategy wrap-up thoughts as well.

I’m reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest…3rd in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. Not exactly expanding my brain, but fun to read. :)
