I’m so sorry for being less than on it when it comes to the last few weeks, life has been crazy and my internet connectivity is creating an issue when it comes to blogging creativity. This week’s song selection features a few strong women with a lot of musical talent; I already featured Ani DiFranco by herself, so I’ll be excluding her this week…just know that I think she’s a rocking strong woman. The two bands I chose for today are on opposite ends of the musical spectrum, but both also feature amazing strong women who don’t apologize for their voices or their message.
The first band I want to spend a little time with is Garbage. A stable of my young adulthood, Garbage and lead singer Shirley Manson reminded me that it was ok to be offbeat at a time when I needed it most. And now that I’m a mom and trying to do all the ‘mom things’ that I’m supposed to do so that my girls fit in and have the best opportunities possible, I like to turn Garbage on – turn it way up- and remind myself that it is still ok to be different and it’s still ok to be me.

The second group I want to highlight this week is fairly new to the scene. Miranda Lambert, Ashley Munroe, and Angaleena Presley band together to form Pistol Annies and belt out strong songs about strong (and often baaad) Southern women. I don’t what it is, but their voices are so strong…and different…I just really love them when I’m in a sh%*& kicking mood.
