#TuesdayTunes – Remembering MCA and the Beastie Boys

With much of the world still reeling from the loss of Adam “MCA” Yauch, you don’t have to look hard to find musicians from all over the world paying tribute to one of the hardest working bands ever.  MCA was known not only for his amazing lyrical (and musical) stylings, but also for his philanthropic work through out the world. I had planned to move on and talk about how I’m fiending for new music…and share some of my favorite new songs, but I’ve decided to postpone that and share some of the most recent MCA/Beastie Boys tributes that came out over the weekend.

Coldplay shares a haunting rendition of the Beastie Boys most well known song with their tribute to the rapper and this is possibly my favorite of all of the tributes.  It really is beautiful.

Next we have fun.’s version of Sabotage (another of my favorites) which they took the time to perform part of at one of their live shows this weekend

Lastly, The Red Hot Chili Peppers also showed respect for MCA and the Beasties this weekend with their quick tribute to “So What’Ch Want”

I don’t know about you, but I spent much of the weekend enjoying some of the old tunes and remembering the band that brought rap and rock together for me.

What songs are you listening to to remember MCA with?

Be sure to link up if you listen along!

Beastie Boy Co-Founder Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch Remembered

Way back when I was young, thin and rebellious one of the very first bands I chose for myself was The Beastie Boys.  With their white-boy rap sound mixed with rock and lyrics that appealed to the bad a&% I thought I was, Mike D., Ad-Rock, and MCA lyrically solidified themselves forever as musical geniuses in my book.  Today I join the millions of Beastie Boy fans who are brokenhearted as we bid a fond farewell to Beastie co-founder, Adam “MCA” Yauch.  MCA passed away earlier today, May 4th 2012, due to complications from cancer.

May you continue to spin ill beats in the afterlife.

MCA directed Intergalactic under an assumed name in 1998 and the song won them one of their three Grammys.

Here’s another of my favorites Sabotage.

Which Beastie Boy song is your favorite?
