It is no secret to parents anywhere that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for children (and adults), but it can often be difficult to get your kiddos to sit down long enough to enjoy a good health breakfast. In the morning rush, I’ve discovered a delicious breakfast I can always throw together in no time…Mango Berry Smoothies, or as we call them Fango Mango Berry Smoothies, the really awesome thing is that the girls love it too!
All you have to do is throw a few handfuls of mangoes, your favorite berries, some banana, a bit of milk (or ice) and a little wheat germ in your handy individual mixer (what?! doesn’t everyone have one??) and blend until smooth. If your kids are picky, you might want to strain it first to be rid of any seeds that are in the smoothie…my girls don’t care and just want to drink it up!
This is a new recipe to our house though, because the girls haven’t had much experience with mango before this summer. Late this summer, the National Mango Board sent my family and I a package of fresh mangoes for our enjoyment and of course the taste is so refreshing and smooth; both girls loved it! They could not get enough and that propelled me to come up with new and healthy ways to enjoy this new favorite. The girls aren’t the only ones who loves this recipe, in fact…the mango berry smoothie has become a regular staple in my breakfast routine ever since I learned that one cup of mango is just 100 calories(!!) and the sugar/fiber combo in this mix fuels my morning workout!
The National Mango Board challenged me to spend a week creating healthier eating and snacking habits for my family. Join the conversation and one of my readers will receive a cookbook and a chance to win a shipment of mangos and $200 gift card to Williams-Sonoma.
