You know when your kids watch a movie over and over and over and over? Until even you know every word to the theme song? Yeah. That’s what this movie has done to our family. There is not a person left in our home who isn’t humming the sweet tune from Doc McStuffins. Jon, who was away for the last two weeks on a business trip, is even humming along already.
Who knew that the adorable Doc McStuffins, voiced by Disney’s Kiara Muhammad, would wield the awesome power to bring my constantly squabbling 9 & 5 year old together?! Had I known, I would have been a fan a long time ago. As it stands, our family sold.
In the 115 minutes that Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins is fixing up her friends, she also helps reinforce some important lessons, like telling an adult when you feel bad or need help (“The Right Stuff”…see the provided clip). Another theme that I see popping up over and over is Doc & her pals encouraging one another to take care of each other and displaying what it means to be a good friend. In a time when there are enough examples of not to behave, it’s refreshing to find a role model of sorts in this light-hearted children’s movie from Disney.
While Doc McStuffins: Friendship is the Best Medicine is a great movie for preschoolers all the way up to early grade schoolers, my nine year old was even drawn in by the adorable characters and sweet stories. As per their personalities, KG is a fan of Stuffy, the proud but brave dragon, while KJ is enamored by Lambie, Doc’s Bestest Buddy (I suspect this stems from her love of Mama Baby…and all things girly.)
