Part two in this short series on my 3 key take-aways from Type-A Mom Conference is focusing on the more professional side to blogging. If you missed part 1, I discussed my 3 Key Personal Take-Aways from Type-A Mom.

3 Key Professional Take-Aways

* Know what you want to achieve with your blog. If you want to make an income with it, that’s fine. If you’re happy without ads, reviews, and other such paid items on your blog then that’s cool too. Just be aware of what you want out of your blog {if anything} and where you want it to go. Keep moving forward.

* Use your own voice. You want your readers to be able to “hear” you when they read your posts. I can tell you from personal experience, you do not want to meet your readers and hear “You’re nothing like I thought you would be.” There are hundreds, if not thousands, of amazing bloggers out there and each has {or should have} their own voice.

* If you do something well you deserve to be paid for it. This includes blogging. In what other industry can a person get away with not paying for services? I have some very strong opinions on this subject, which I will keep out of this, but I do want to say this: We must stand together. IF we want to be taken seriously and professionally, we must refuse to do the work without the pay.

I would love to hear what you learned from Type-A Mom Conference last weekend. Share your wrap-up links in the comments and I’ll write a wrap-up post and try to include yours.

Don’t miss my 3 Key Ashevillian Take-Aways.

That’s right, the world. Since I had the privilege to not only speak at the Type-A Mom Conference in Asheville, North Carolina but was also able to moderate an amazing panel on community, lead an education tribe discussion, and serve as volunteer coordinator for the conference I’ll go on and readily admit I was busy, so much so that I found myself unable to attend as many of the sessions as I had planned. But I’m not complaining. OH NO. Trust me when I tell you I still learned a lot.

A lot about myself, this blog and it’s future, but also about the multitude of bloggers who are not only moms, but are also entrepreneurs, businesswomen, and all around kick-ass. Before I get too much farther into this post, I want to throw a huge thank you out to the woman {and men} who came out and volunteered their time to make Type-A Mom so amazing. If you don’t already know them, do it now.

I’m pretty certain I’ve forgotten someone…if I have please PLEASE leave a comment and I’ll add it to the post! AND accept my I apologies.

After arriving on Thursday I found myself immediately jumping into conference prep with swag bag stuffing and registration room prepping. Hours later with still more bag stuffing today, Ang and I headed out to Malaprops from some Blogger book readings. Can I just say these mamas {and a papa too} can really write?! ½ a tasty muffin and some sweet baby Adam time later, we were headed back to the Renaissance for some more swag bag prepping. Add in a near midnight airport run to pick up my girl, Shannan, and I was d.o.n.e. for the day.

Friday morning I spoke at my very first session on “Rebranding Your Blog”, check out Christina’s amazing live-blogging of my session {I need to remember to do this from now on when I’m in sessions}. Guess what?! I didn’t totally suck. I mean in my opinion I probably repeated myself a lot and skipped around {all things I can work on in the future}, but I had several people thank me and tell me I did a good job. Gasp.

After making sure my volunteers were set for the day {and that they had my phone number if they needed me} Amy, Shannan, and I headed out for a visit to the Biltmore Estate. Touring Biltmore with adult friends sans children is so much better than dragging children along. After walking til our legs felt like they might just fall off, we indulged in a little wine tasting and found I like Biltmore’s Century Wines best of all.

On Saturday I had the privilege of moderating the “It’s About Community not Competition” panel with Janice from 5 Minutes 4 Moms, Jennifer from Mom Bloggers Club, and Laurie from Kirtsy. Such an amazing group of women. I was inspired and awed by them. Seriously ladies {and gentlemen} it really is about supporting each other. Saturday night I helped a fellow blogger quickly do a rebrand {which I’ll be writing about more soon}, went out to eat at Early Girl Eatery with 20 of my closest friends, drank some very tasty Middle Sister red & white wine in the always amazing Aliza and Heather’s room before the Biltmore wine reception. Later {much later} I was able to spend some time with another truly amazing and dear friend, Caitlin.

Sunday found me heading home shortly after dropping Amy off at the airport for her flight in hopes of missing the rain {I didn’t}. I had such a great time and have a huge Thank You to go out to Kelby and Mike for organizing such an amazing conference and the sponsors for helping their vision become reality.

Next post: Top 3 Key Take-Aways from Type-A Mom and be watching for photos to pop up through out the week.

My name is Amanda and I live in the same small town in Kentucky that I grew up in. I am a twenty-seven year old Blog at Home Mom with two beautiful little girls (six and two). My husband regularly contributes great tips to keep your PC running smooth to High Impact Mom.

I’m a closet geek and am active in my community. I shop at Walmart, I tan and I’m a Southern girl through and through. I love sweet tea and dark chocolate…oh and quiet.

Environmental issues are a factor in our decisions as we strive to be more eco-friendly and more conscious of our actions.

I am interested in strengthening our financial health with my husband…becoming more financially savvy is addictive! I am a sometimes funny, always honest mom who loves her God, her children, her husband, and her large extended family.

High Impact Mom is passionate about ending human slavery, hunger, and the lack of clean drinking water. We stand up against child abuse and spousal abuse. The mission of High Impact Mom is simple: To empower parents to live their best lives while being active and contributing to their community.

We cover such topics as green living, personal finance and frugal living, basic computer maintenance, and our crazy lives. We feature timely and honest reviews and exciting giveaways too!

So just pull up a chair, get comfortable, and take a look around! I hope you enjoy what you read here and that some of it (not all) will make you think.

Feel free to contact me at Amanda@HighImpactMom.com! I’d love to strike a conversation with you.

I am overwhelmed by the out-pouring of graciousness and love from all of you. I am moved by how much and how many of you put thought and concern into your suggestions and entries. There were so many wonderful and fabulous suggestions it was especially hard for the girls to choose. They liked them all.

Finally, KG was able to help me narrow it down to a list of 5 and from there she chose the winner…

www.highimpactmom.com

Here is Jacquie;s winning comment:

Hiya! I was reading your “About” page and noticed that you have a real passion for impacting the people around you and helping others do the same. Perhaps you could include this idea in your new domain? I thought of highimpactmom.com, but it appears someone may have dibs on that name (http://www.freewebs.com/thinkingmom/index.htm) even though it doesn’t look like the website is current or has any new content from over 2 years ago & isn’t using that actual domain?? Other ideas might be

impactingmoms.com
momsimpact.com
faithfulimpact.com
impactingfaith.com
highimpactfaith.com

etc. My favorite is probably highimpactmom.com, but there may be issues with that one, which is too bad. Overall though, I like the idea of “impact” as it is a strong word and reflects something that you are already passionate about. Blessings on you in this venture and all the best as you try to make a difficult decision on your new brand!

After some research and help from my dear friend @AlyssaAvant over at Life From My Laptop I have found that the aforementioned website is not infact trademarked and as she mentioned it has not been updated in over two years. I have sent a courtesy email to the address given on the site, but do not expect any problems.

High Impact Mom

I really think High Impact Mom speaks volumes to what this blog is all about! It is my intention to always be a High Impact Mom, not only in my children’s lives but in the world around me and for Christ. The name is broad enough to allow me to continue write about a variety of subjects and to involve others. I am so excited to get started building this new brand with all of you.

Not only is Dawn a great friend, fabulous mom, and awesome web designer…she’s also a dedicated VA, painter and closet Twitter addict. Please be sure to show her some love for all the hard work she has done on my header and the great friend she has been.

I am writing because I feel that your domain name is almost the same is
Moms of Faith. The only thing separating us is the letter "s." It is not a
good thing for either one of our ministries. Moms of Faith was birthed in
2000 and our Online presence has been around since 2004. We have spent many
years building our trademark, ministry, and a faithful following of readers
and members worldwide.

I do not want you to think I am getting ugly or belittling what you are
doing. I am not. However, I am asking you to prayerfully consider renaming
your ministry and domain, so that there is no confusion. Plus, in the long
run, it will give your ministry it's own name and branding to build on. We
are willing to help you in any way.

I also did not want to come at you with threats of lawsuits and
ridiculousness like that. My staff and I have prayed about how to contact
you for a few weeks now. I want the Lord to be glorified...always. We are
sisters in Christ and I believe that if we allow God to work, we can come
to a fair compromise. Moms of Faith is also available to partner with you
and help you in any way that we can to help your ministry be all that God
wants it to be.

Please pray, think about this and get back to me as soon as you can.

As I am sure you can imagine I am terribly unhappy at the thought of losing all that I have worked for here at Mom of Faith. Though I hope all of you will follow my over to where ever my new home will be. I have spent a lot of time in prayer and quiet time over this decision and after discussion with trusted friends, family, and of course God, I have decided it is not fitting for me to continue to write under this URL and brand since it apparently impedes on all the great work she and her team have done.

It was never my intention to interfere with any ministry of the Lord and plan to continue my work somewhere else. There is plenty of room out there for both of our ministries to thrive.

The terms of our agreement state that I have three months to complete the transition and I hope that over the next few months you will be a HUGE part of the changes! Starting with a new brand: A new url and name for you to find me at.

I’m hoping this is where you come in.

I have a mission for you.

Come up with a new name/brand for Mom of Faith and post it here in a comment.

I will check all of them to see which are available, compile a list, and let my girls pick the winner.

The requirements of this contest are simple:

1. Subscribe to this site through email. I will be posting more contests as I go through the re-branding process and don’t want you to miss out on a single thing. The great thing is you won’t even have worry about missing anything when I do make the move, your subscription will transfer too!

2. Comment here with your email address and your suggestion.

It’s really that simple!! Of course I would love it if you wold tweet the contest for me too, but that’s totally optional. Contest ends: June 12!!

The winner of the naming contest will win:

A $25 gift card to Children’s Orchard

A copy of This is your Brain on Joy by Dr. Earl Henslin

A set Glory for Girls beauty products

Please Help!! I have NO IDEA where to start or what to be called! I look forward to hearing your suggestions! I love all of you guys and am so very grateful for your reading! You guys are the greatest!!
